1. I. QUY TẮC ĐÁNH DẤU TRỌNG ÂM 1. Với từ cú 2 õm tiết. - N/Adj: trọng õm rơi vào õm tiết thứ 1 Ex: ‘happy, ‘busy, ‘picture, ‘cancer - Verb: trọng õm rơi vào õm tiết thứ 2 Ex: re’peat, be’gin 2. Tận cựng là ate. - Cú 2 õm tiết thỡ trọng õm rơi vào õm tiết thứ 1. Ex: ‘classmate. ‘climate - Cú 3 õm tiết trở lờn thỡ trọng õm rơi vào õm tiết thứ 3 kể từ dưới lờn. Ex: con’gratulate, o’riginate 3.Cỏc từ cú trọng õm rơi vào chớnh nú là cỏc từ cú tận cựng là: - ee de'gree - oon bal'loon - eer engi'neer - ette ciga'rette - ese Chi'nese - ique u'nique - ade lemo'nade - esque picture'esque - oo bam'boo - mental funda'mental 4. Cỏc từ cú trọng õm rơi vào trước nú là cỏc từ cú tận cựng như: - ic - romantic [rou'mổntik] - ish - finish ['fini∫] - ion - nation ['nei∫n] - ian - politician [,pɔli'ti∫n] - ial - special ['spe∫l] - ical - technological [,teknə'lɔdʒikl]

Trọng õm rơi vào õm tiết thứ 3 tớnh từ cuối lờn khi kết thỳc tận cựng là: ize/ise, phụ õm + y (trừ ly) Ex: 'organize, 'industry, 'chemistry 6. Từ ghộp (từ cú 2 phần) - Đối với cỏc danh từ ghộp thỡ trọng õm rơi vào õm tiết thứ nhất. Ex: 'blackbird, 'greenhouse, 'raincoat - Đối với cỏc tớnh từ/liờn từ/giới từ ghộp thỡ trọng õm rơi vào õm tiết đầu tiờn của từ thứ 2. Ex: bad'temper, old'fashioned, home'sick, with'out, however - Đối với cỏc động từ ghộp trọng õm rơi vào động từ chớnh. Ex: over'come, over'flow, under'stand. 7. - Cỏc hậu tố và tiền tố khụng cú trọng õm (Khi thờm hậu tố hoặc tiền tố thỡ trọng õm khụng thay đổi so với từ gốc.). Ex: im'portant – unim'portant , 'beauty - 'beautiful - Trọng õm thường rơi vào nguyờn õm dài, nguyờn õm đụi. Ex: di'sease 8. Từ lưỡng tớnh: Nếu là danh từ thỡ trọng õm rơi vào õm tiết thứ nhất, cũn là động từ thỡ trọng õm rơi vào õm tiết thứ 2. Ex: (n) 'import 'report 'conflict (v) im'port, re'port, con'flic 9. Từ ghộp (từ cú 2 phần.) Dựa vào độ dài, độ mạnh, độ cao, độ vang của cỏc õm tiết trong 1 từ để suy ra trong õm Ex: 'cofident (adj)
